The student representatives for NHS for the 2017-18 school year have been elected. The current NHS members were able to vote for their representatives last week.

The new officers will be juniors Aiyla Arif, Bella Pedraza, Samhita Sunkara, Julia Ring and Alyson Koh. The position of officer entails that each will initiate activities and supervise their peers.

“As an officer, we are supposed to be a source of support for other members and help them find activities they are truly interested in,” Arif said.

Each representative has plans to improve the program to their best capability and has high hopes for the upcoming school year.

“I am planning on starting an initiative at the Portage nursing home so members can contribute to our local community,” Arif said.

Not only will the officers initiate local activities, but they  plan on making a global impact as well.

“I plan on creating a Red Cross Club to help our NHS members and students be more involved in not only our community, but also to help the global community,” Ring said.

With history teacher Kent Baker remaining the head of NHS, the new officers look hopefully toward the upcoming school year.
