21 Savage is an essential cultural icon amongst rappers. Recently, it has been made apparent that the U.K. native had overstayed his U.S. visa for 12 years. Now Savage faces the legal consequences for his actions. Many assume that Tekashi 6ix9ine is at the root of this sudden revelation.

6ix9ine was arrested for nine federal charges and was originally facing a 47 year minimum jail time, but soon, this may all be changed. If his plea is approved by court, the rapper could be released as soon as January 2020.

In order to make this possible, 6ix9ine has made a deal with his lawyers. He agreed to release all known information about his gang, as well as information on all other illegal activity to authorities. Many speculate that 21 Savage’s case was among 6ix9ine’s numerous confessions.

21 Savage came to the United States when he was only seven years old, and refers to himself as a “dreamer.” When asked about his earlier days in a Los Angeles Times interview, Savage says that he didn’t even know what a visa was when he first came to the United States.

After his misdoing was revealed, Savage was taken into ICE custody for nine days. ICE stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and are responsible for enforcing immigration laws. As of late, ICE custody has quite a reputation for leaving their captives in terrible conditions.

With overcrowding issues in the ICE detention centers, disease has been rampant, accompanied by many deaths including a case where a woman’s pregnancy ended in a stillbirth. There are many harrowing stories describing people’s times in the detention centers, and they continue to flood in.

21 Savage has been released from ICE on bond. However, many others are still suffering in detention centers for simply living their life.

“I feel your [the detainees’] pain, and I’m gonna do everything in my power to try and bring awareness to your pain,” Savage said in an interview about his experience in ICE for Los Angeles Times.

Savage has influenced a large number of people to have political discussions on immigration laws and the officials who enforce them. Using his big name influence, he has created a ripple in the world of immigration and customs laws, prompting many to open their eyes to those people who are in need and in pain.
